Light in the tunnel

2007

Gemstones on canvas

29.3 x 23 cm, about 5000 gemstones

Visiting Hogsback in Eastern Cape, South Africa, is a real feast for the eye when it comes to colours and beauty of the vegetation. I took a number of photos in this area. To express one of the most exciting subjects for any human being; the curiosity of how are we to pass from this world to another, I used some of these photos. The light that we see in the tunnel (made of blue chalcedony) is not an even target. It has some smudges and unidentified shapes. The branches and greenery are made of a multitude of various stones, the road of Dalmatian jasper, and the bench, on which a tired (or frightened) traveller may rest for a while, is made of red jasper.
