The last supper   2007

(according to the fresco by L. da Vinci)

33 x 45.5 cm, about 5000 gemstones

The painting is based on the famous art-work but has colours chosen by myself. I also had to take care that the figures of the Christ and the apostles are clearly defined. The table cloth and the distribution of food on the table do not coincide with the original fresco. I saw the fresco and based my painting on photographs that were taken before the latest restoration that took place a few years ago. Therefore, some of the parts of the background are added according to my imagination. The tiled floor is also different: The centralised perspective of the tiles was designed  in that way as to lead the viewer’s eye directly to the figure of Christ.

Parts of the faces of the persons were first made with gemstones, then the empty spaces were painted with acrylic and eventually rock crystals were placed in these areas. The floor, the grey wall-panels and the view behind the window are painted with acrylic. A magnitude of various gemstones was used in this painting.
