The oak trees

Gemstones on board, 1997

10 x 15.5 cm, 500 to 1.000 stones

Based on a painting by G Boonzaier 1909 “The oak trees and Table Mountain from Newlands”.

The painting is quite a faithful copy of the original Boonzaier painting. However, I have never seen the original in my life. I only saw a photograph. I made the contours of the mountain with pencil. The colourful stones at the bottom part of the painting represent buildings and fences of a poor suburb.
