Tranquillity

2005

About 4500 stones

15.3 x 22.7 cm

Inspired by a painting by a German realistic painter, Otto Eismann. The title of the Eismann’s painting reads “Hinderhoff” which means back-yard. In fact my “Tranquillity” has little to do with “Hinderhoff”. They both picture a house, geese and sky and here the similarity ends. “Hinderhoff” presents untidy back yard without grass. “Tranquility” invites you to sit on the stoep and look at the water, the fence and beyond, and feed the geese. “Tranquillity” has probably more than 4500 gemstones since the geese are made of 3 layers of white howlite and the sky has 2 layers of blue chalcedony.
